Research abstract

Second Front proposes to architect and prototype a modular, extensible Software as a Service (SaaS) platform to enable the US Air Force (USAF) to better assess and access innovative technology companies from beyond the traditional defense industrial base (DIB). Once tightly integrated with national security requirements, ecosystems of technological innovation are now too often disconnected, making accurate market research and assessments of the commercial state of the art difficult for USAF program managers and acquisition professionals. Our platform will leverage cutting-edge Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) solutions while also ensuring interoperability with any existing legacy or Government off the Shelf (GOTS) tools already in use by our stakeholder(s). Our accelerated Phase I feasibility study will determine precisely which data, features, and applications are most important to USAF stakeholder(s) through customer discovery and beneficiary interviews conducted in the model of Hacking for Defense and the Lean Launchpad methodologies.
