Research abstract

Expedition Technology and Applied Defense Solutions propose OPERA, a passive, distributed antenna array to achieve an autonomous, 24/7 LEO and GEO satellite RF tracking and fingerprinting capability for a recurring price less than $500K. A distributed antenna forms an aperture large enough to support accurate orbit determination over a broad range of frequencies, yet small enough to be installed on a building rooftop or other small area with good visibility and easy access to basic utilities. The antenna array for OPERA is formed from a set of four low-cost antenna elements spaced approximately ~50-meters apart. Each antenna element operates over a broad frequency range (UHF-, L-, S- and C-Bands), dual polarizations, and a wide field of view tailored to either LEO or GEO observation.
