Research abstract

The objective of this effort is to demonstrate target identification for weapons cueing and control using a targeting network of integrated national ISR and satellite assets. In Phase II, we will continue development of the core functions and begin integration into a demonstration of the proposed automated weapon seeker cueing function. We will work with an existing communication system provider to develop methods for sharing targeting information without exceeding the data capacity. Our systems of systems method will connect shared representations across all levels of integration. In particular, our representation is typically much lower dimensionality than the sensing measurements space, and the benefit is greatly reduced bandwidth requirements. Furthermore, our representation will be constructed across multiple sensing modalities to enable identification from different sensor typesin particular, we will consider radar modes in Phase II. Offline and online learning will be combined to produce methods that can extrapolate new views, conditions, and modalities from captured views of a previously unseen target. Finally, we propose extending our representation with methods to enhance foreground-background separation and to enable recognition by parts. Together, these methods focus on the joint inference aspects of joint inference and control.
