Research abstract

WICR is a unique low-cost, high-performance, radar technology aimed at transforming the Weapons Team into an autonomous close-in targeting system. WICR informs battle managers of target positions as the weapons ingress and loiter above their targets prior to their attack.  WICR Phase 2 will design, develop, test, and demonstrate our distributed coherent radar technology in a Weapon Team in motion.  Key tasks include system engineering, followed by development of custom SDR hardware, real-time SDR firmware, and radar signal processing software.  We will build and test four (4) WICR SDRs and integrate them with four (4) full-size weapon mockups for laboratory testing.  Each weapon mockup will contain an SDR, IMU, precision clock, WiFi communications, antennas, power supplies, and cables.  Each weapon mockup will be paired with its own WICR module that performs local radar signal processing and data storage functions.  The weapon-module pairs comprise stand-alone WICR radars.  Testing will focus on motion compensation of GMTI and SAR radar modes while all four WICR radars are moved independently, communicating with each other only via WiFi.
