Research abstract
Black River Systems Company is pleased to submit this Phase II proposal for SBIR topic N231-035 “Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) in Complex Underwater Environments.” This is a reachback topic that will build heavily on N191-036 “Big Data Tools for High-Speed Threat Detection and Classification.” Our solution, called TRACE (Threat Recognition Aided by Continuous Evolution), utilizes a novel hybrid ML architecture that will assist AN/SQQ-89 sonar operators to rapidly detect, classify, and localize acoustic signals from high-speed threats. Highlights of the proposed approach include maximizing limited training data, flexible training strategies, generalized feature extraction, and data augmentation.
