Research abstract

Wideband Array Signal Processing for Electronic Measure Support proposes an effort to demonstrate an advanced signal processing technique for the timely detection, location, and classification of wideband electronic threats including low probability of detect/intercept signals (LPDI). The WASP technology is a prototype software solution that jointly exploits time, frequency, and angle domain information to effectively detect and locate stealthy, LPDI waveforms within dense signal environments. A Machine Learning (ML) Automatic Modulation Recognition (AMR) capability will be developed to classify these signals of interest and quickly parameterize internals to support threat assessment and selection of countermeasure techniques. A comprehensive performance analysis of the software protype will be conducted to identify, prioritize, and generate a systematic plan to achieve real-time, wideband processing requirements. As part of the Phase I Option, the scalability and processing capability of the base system will be demonstrated on representative hardware as a protype streaming testbed using a simulated dataset of relevant LPDI signals. In preparation for Phase II, an analysis of the ESM system requirements, performance assessment, and feasibility study will be performed to produce a technology evolution roadmap and hardware recommendations for a system prototype to include software and COTS hardware components.
