Research abstract

In discussions with Space Systems Command (SSC) Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) and Commercial Space Office (COMSO), Quindar confirmed that various operations commands within the USAF and USSF (e.g. SSC PNT, USSF Delta 5, Space Safari, TacRS, NRO/OSL and USAF AFR/ RV) are not well positioned for the rapid C2 and mission planning that will be needed to manage large constellations. In addition to Quindar’s existing features, potential end users said that a conversational AI chatbot would help space operators manage missions. In the proposed Phase II, Quindar will pioneer this approach by developing a conversational AI assistant (chatbot) that allows operators to interact during satellite mission management using simple, intuitive commands. This next generation chatbot will empower operators to query, monitor, and manage satellite operations through natural language interactions, significantly improving efficiency and reducing cognitive load. By offloading routine tasks to AI-driven automation, operators will be able to focus on higher-level mission objectives while effectively commanding larger satellite fleets. Quindar will deploy this capability on BASE-C, a secure cloud platform with the necessary cybersecurity controls for TS/SCI high-side operations. Quindar will also operate independently from the internet, to provide a secure, AI-driven mission management solution. The added chatbot will contain features such as contact and task management, generative user interface (UI) integration, dynamic reporting, and cross-domain solution (CDS) to further automate and simplify satellite operations so that USSF can focus on mission objectives rather than tedious details.
