Research abstract

CAMX Power proposes to develop a high specific-energy, 28V – 30Ah integrated, stand-alone Li-ion battery system for Navy aircraft that can meet the stringent targets for weight, volume and performance outlined in MIL-PRF-29595. The CAMX Power battery will combine a novel anode architecture with a state-of-the-art cathode material and tailored electrolytes to achieve these targets. Based on the successful Phase I program, the Phase II effort will focus on further optimizing battery chemistry, demonstrating scalability to the multi-Ah cell level, validating performance and life, and integrating these multi-Ah cells in a 28V prototype battery system. Successful development in Phase II will result in a TRL-5 technology and provide a pathway for transitioning this technology for NAVAIR use.
