Research abstract

FLOWN utilizes a software defined mesh “network of networks” that combines various existing radios and waveforms into a single network resilient to jamming and congestion. The design focuses on ease of deployment in contested areas, encryption capability, and safety to surrounding systems such as munitions. End user operation looks just like a home network in which a device is logged into a network and provides expected connectivity. Encryption of classified information, Bluetooth/RFID data capture, zeroization, mesh routing, path failover, and authentication are all transparently handled by the FLOWN network itself, maximizing plug and play usability and reducing deployment time. FLOWN utilizes DISA and AFIT high-assurance elements to securely support future operator needs such as TAK server, SIPR, local aircraft, and commercial internet access.
