Research abstract

The Field Rugged Environmental Stability Habitat for Additive Manufacturing (FRESH-AM) enables commercial additive manufacturing (AM) technology to operate in harsh shipboard and expeditionary environments. This technology supports Naval lines of effort by helping with prototyping a digital manufacturing ecosystem and defining an AM afloat infrastructure. In Phase I, an emphasis was placed on proving technical feasibility of the key engineering features in a laboratory environment. During this Phase II effort, the FRESH-AM technology will be further matured and the design will be refined and polished for productization in mind. Also, additional desired features discovered in Phase I testing will be implemented into the new design. Option periods will be focused on customer demonstrations and integration into a realistic Navy AM environment and application.
