Research abstract

In Phase II of this research and development effort, we will leverage our existing REDHAWK-enabled SDR product line to build a prototype tactical manpack REDHAWK-enabled Cognitive Radio (CR) device. This CR platform will be the foundation for the implementation of our Phase I algorithms and the extension of these algorithms to include spatial processing (e.g. Direction Finding (DF), spatial filtering/beamforming, and Multiple-Input Multiple Output (MIMO) communications). In addition, we will develop a cognitive engine or learning machine to enable the CR device to autonomously sense, learn, reconfigure and interact with the dynamic RF environment. The first optional period extends the waveform recognition and adaptive communication techniques to address specific mission waveforms of interest to the customer. The second optional period transitions the CR system to full production and operational deployment, as well as refines and customizes the system for specific mission scenarios as directed by the customer.
