Research abstract

The Army seeks a secure wireless network solution to enable distributed vehicles to autonomously report status to a centralized collection point in the motorpool up to 50km away as part of an overarching predictive logistics solution. Vehicle status can be monitored by unit commanders and maintainers in near real-time via the Army Vantage dashboard enabling condition-based maintenance and critical response to a variety of operational events.  Vehicle data can also be transported via Beyond Line-of-Sight (BLOS) SATCOM backhaul systems from the motorpool to higher level echelons enabling fleetwide predictive logistics and maintenance to ensure mission continuity and effectiveness. For this effort we will extend our Firefly low-SWAP Software Defined Radio (SDR) and LPI/LPD CDMA spread spectrum waveform currently being used to deliver our SOCOM SUAS Tracker system, and our established CIELOTM Cognitive Radio Gateway to create a wireless vehicle sensor network capable of providing simultaneous bi-directional communications from more than 200 vehicles to a centralized Ethernet-attached wireless Gateway enabling condition-based maintenance and predictive logistics.  Unlike commercial IoT LoRa/LoRaWAN and 5G cellular technologies, our wireless sensor network does not rely on a commercial network infrastructure and provides spectrum maneuverability enabling worldwide operation even in remote disconnected environments.  Our low power LPI/LPD waveform provides longer range wireless communications than commercial LoRa, as well as the ability to support a variety of data rates enabling dynamic mission-specific Military applications.
