Research abstract

Latent AI proposes the Battle-Management of Edge AI Test and Evaluation (BEAT), an automated Test and Evaluation (T&E) framework designed to accelerate the deployment and redeployment of AI models at the tactical edge. BEAT integrates seamlessly with Latent AI’s Efficient Inference Platform (LEIP), an MLOps Software Development Kit (SDK) enabling AI optimization and deployment on resource-constrained devices. By leveraging BEAT, the U.S. Army can address critical gaps in operational Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), ensuring robust, secure, and adaptable AI systems tailored for battlefield conditions.BEAT provides a data-driven, modular approach to T&E, incorporating security layers such as watermarking and encryption, automation for data and model lifecycle management, and operator-focused Course of Action (COA) tools. The system enables rapid triage, fine-tuning, and redeployment of AI models while ensuring compliance with traceability, observability, replaceability, and consumability (TORC) principles. The Ruggedized AI Kit, part of BEAT, facilitates secure on-site model updates without cloud dependency.BEAT’s integration into Project Linchpin advances the Army’s AI capabilities by addressing scalability, interoperability, and operational security requirements. The proposed effort leverages demonstrated technologies, including Navy and Army projects, and aligns with future R&D pathways to deliver scalable dual-use solutions for DoD missions and commercial applications.
