Research abstract

TBDThis proposal is for continued Phase II development of Team Oriented Programming for Dynamic Automated Target Area Threat and Route Optimization (TOPDAT). We are joined in this effort by Dr. Paul Scerri of the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute. The goal of this SBIR program is to develop tools that will automatically [italics added] optimize multiple disparate platforms' performance, survivability and target area deconfliction in high threat environments. In Phase I, we made significant progress addressing the research issues underlying TOPDAT. On the primary research task of assessing the feasibility of applying the TREMOR/DIMS approach to the cooperative strike planning problem, we showed that it could be applied and good cooperative plans could be found in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, the Phase I effort made clear the important issues and put us into a better position to find good solutions in Phase II. For Phase II we propose to complete and extend TOPDAT functionality, including core algorithm updates and speed-ups, reengineer the system for compatibility with JMPS, and validate the TOPDAT technology as low-risk path to integration with JMPS for cooperative strike planning. Following are brief summaries of the key technical objectives.
