Research abstract

The Space Force currently faces a critical challenge in Space Domain Awareness (SDA) where processing a single uncorrelated track into actionable intelligence can take months, despite exponential growth in Resident Space Object orbital traffic. Current capabilities have remained stagnant for 5-7 years, with the Space Force requiring three months just to catalog 1,500 pieces of debris. This data processing crisis forces operators to rely on obvious threats rather than comprehensive threat detection, creating significant vulnerabilities in space domain awareness and defense capabilities.OrbitGuard addresses this challenge by implementing next-generation Artificial Intelligence technologies that transform reactive tracking into predictive intelligence. The system leverages advanced Joint Embedding Predictive Architectures (JEPA) and innovative Graph-JEPA technology to process and analyze overwhelming volumes of non-ideal data, reducing the ôUCT-to-actionö timeline from months to minutes. The solution integrates with the Unified Data Library and employs simulation-based virtual range capabilities to augment maneuver labeling where data is scarce. The key innovation lies in OrbitGuardÆs hierarchical strategy that combines Patch Time Series Transformer Networks and Reinforcement Learning to overcome the reliability limitations of conventional generative AI. The Graph-JEPA architecture improves upon baseline JEPA by incorporating graph-structured data, enabling more effective modeling of complex relationships and dependencies between entities in latent space. This enhancement is particularly crucial for tasks with intricate relational structures, such as satellite behavior analysis and threat detection. The system builds upon proven foundations developed through the GURU system, which has achieved TRL7-8 capabilities deployed on HPCMP systems.OrbitGuard delivers multiple benefits to space operations:Enables comprehensive space domain awareness beyond obvious threatsAccelerates digital transformation of space operationsConverts overwhelming data volumes into actionable intelligenceEnsures reliable data sourcing through validated modelsProvides scalability for future edge deployments on spacecraftSupports cross-domain applications for Air Force, Army, and Navy operationsFacilitates transition from data ownership to data stewardshipKey performance metrics include:Reduction in UCT processing time from months to minutesDemonstrated capability in detecting satellite stability changes through live demonstrations at Apollo Accelerator Demo DaySuccessful API service deployment for maneuver detection at SDA TAP LabIntegration with existing systems through Node Red at the SDA TAP LabPotential for expansion from initial $20M annual recurring revenue to $100M ARRScalability to support space economy growth from $570B to $1.8TDeployment ready for both isolated service annual licenses ($10,000) and site licenses ($300,000)
