Research abstract

As adversaries advance counterspace capabilities, leveraging electronic warfare and electromagnetic pulse weapons, the resilience of U.S. space assets is critical to preserving warfighter superiority. The shift to a proliferated warfighter space architecture and the modernization of nuclear command, control, and communications demand next-generation radiation-hardened systems engineered for unwavering performance against both the harsh space environment and adversarial threats. Cosmic Shielding Corporation (CSC) has developed a hydrogen-rich nanoparticle-doped Multifunctional Shielding Polymer named Plasteel (MSP/Plasteel). The primary objective of the proposed project is to utilize various ground-based accelerator facilities, lasers, and radiation transport simulations, as well as in-orbit data, to thoroughly characterize the behavior of a select number of shielded COTS components when exposed to different radiation fields.
