Research abstract
This project will create an affordable, scalable way for farmers to monitor their irrigation using frequent, high-resolution satellite radar images. By combining satellite data from Extellis with Nave Analytics' expertise in processing and delivering actionable insights, we aim to help farmers--especially those without advanced equipment--track water use in real time. This will make it easier to adopt efficient, data-driven irrigation practices without the need to buy new hardware. In the first phase, our team will test the concept through a four-step process: taking satellite radar images during live irrigation events, collecting irrigation system records at the same time, training computer models to interpret the images, and then comparing the results with actual irrigation data to confirm accuracy.Looking ahead, we plan to offer this service as a subscription for $1.99 per acre per growing season, starting with U.S. farmers growing row crops under center-pivot irrigation. The product will fit seamlessly into Nave Analytics' existing services in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Since it requires no extra equipment, it can overcome the cost and compatibility barriers that competitors face, giving us strong potential in a U.S. market worth about $150 million.
