Research abstract

MagiQ Technologies is developing a new approach to fiber optic terminus inspection for the Navy’s critical avionics systems. This system includes a high resolution digital probe microscope, automated image processing, and interferometric surface characterization all in a rugged handheld package. The instrument is capable of detecting contamination and surface damage as well as defects in terminus geometry such as those caused by fiber pistoning. The system will provide an accurate, reliable, and repeatable “GO /NO-GO” indication, terminus health code, and estimation of the insertion loss.
