Research abstract

Underwater electric field (EF) sensors are essential tools in marine research, underwater navigation, and defense applications. These sensors detect and measure subtle electric fields generated by marine organisms, environmental changes, and man-made sources. In military applications, EF sensors are integrated into naval defense systems for submarine detection and mine countermeasure operations, leveraging the electric signatures of vessels and underwater mines. Additionally, the Navy’s autonomous and remotely operated vehicles utilize EF sensors for obstacle detection and navigation in GPS-denied environments, ensuring safe and precise maneuvering.
