Research abstract

Electrical Distribution Design (EDD) proposes to develop model-based water contaminant simulation and vulnerability assessment software applications that will operate from within EDD’s Distributed Engineering Workstation (Dew) software. Work will be based on modification of existing Dew Water Quality Analysis and Reconfiguration for Damage Isolation and Recovery applications. Dew water quality analysis will be modified by adding a diffusion module that gets called together with mixing and reaction to perform fate and transport analysis. Both the diffusion and reaction modules will be structured to use dynamic linked library (dll) equation files that users define using a template. The software will also be able to use a standard set of equation dlls developed by EDD. This will provide for modifying, adding and removing contaminant analysis equations in a way that is seamless to the user without compromising application performance. Vulnerability assessment will be based on extension of Dew’s mission priority based damage isolation and reconfiguration for recovery analysis application. This will make it possible to structure potable water system vulnerability assessment and sensor placement evaluation as integrated parts of multi-objective model-based design and real-time monitoring analysis for reliability, survivability and cost.
