Research abstract

MIRAGE is a next-generation, wearable training system that enhances combat medic readiness by visualizing trauma progression and physiological response in real time. Designed to support scenario-based learning, MIRAGE integrates flexible display technology with an interactive interface to deliver timely, context-aware instructional content. The system enables medics to better understand internal injuries, treatment consequences, and receive structured performance feedback—reinforcing decision-making under pressure. Aligned with Army modernization priorities in human-machine teaming, biotechnology, and advanced materials, MIRAGE advances the state of medical simulation by providing a dynamic, treatment-responsive training environment. It supports scalable performance tracking and integrates with existing DoD training platforms to improve both individual proficiency and system-wide assessment. In Phase I, SIMETRI will deliver a functional prototype demonstrating feasibility in key technical areas, including responsive display, interactive content delivery, and learner performance tracking. Phase II will expand system capabilities and content, setting the stage for transition to fieldable training solutions. Commercialization is planned for Phase III to ensure long-term sustainment and dual-use applicability. MIRAGE leverages mature technologies, sound instructional design, and operational input from subject matter experts to meet immediate and future readiness needs—strengthening medic performance and survivability in the field.
