Research abstract

ABSTRACT: Applied Physical Electronics, L.C. (APELC) offers this proposal as a method to achieve near term goals set out by the Air Force, as well as obtain a solution that will forge into the future of directed energy weapons. APELC is proposing a Marx generator-based non linear line suitable for deployment via a UAV platform. The proposed source, referred to as the High Power Non Linear Transmission Line, or HPNLTL, shows a near term promise for GW peak power levels; operation with a variable center frequency from 500 – 1.5 GHz, and an efficiency of more than 33% (an order of magnitude greater than competing technologies), while maintaining a compact geometry. The line will be directly sourced by an APELC commercialized Marx generator and will be designed to drive a helical antenna that is currently under development under a Kirtland AFB SBIR Phase II. BENEFIT: The development of the APELC source will immediately benefit the DoD with a compact source that delivers GW peak powers in the frequency range from 500 MHz to 1.5 GHz. The same source will benefit the border security, the Coast Guard and the highway patrol.
