Research abstract

DCGS-A, a top Army priority, is the ISR fusion and processing system of systems for the Army’s Future Force. The sheer scope of DCGS-A consolidation & integration, coupled with its evolutionary acquisition and technology insertion approach, derives the need to manage and support a number of different baselines simultaneously. The consequences of these Configuration Management (CM) and Verification & Validation (V&V) challenges have already manifested in the following examples: (1) Downtime-Field site is not operational for days while troubleshooting and correcting problems. (2) Delays-A typical turnaround time is 3-4 weeks for delivering a new baseline to the field. Modus Operandi proposes to build an automated regression test battery for the System Integration Laboratory (SIL). Once automated, these tests can easily be repeated over and over again with minimal effort, after every change. This investment in test automation will yield benefits to DCGS-A by reducing cycle time, improving repeatability and enabling rapid troubleshooting. With our Maestro innovation of orchestration metadata based on a formal vocabulary, these basic building blocks can be easily configured to create new tests and test scenarios. These highly reusable and orchestratable test components will be of immediate value for V3 as well as future versions of DCGS-A.
