Research abstract

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is currently developing a comprehensive testing environment to test and evaluate the operation of multiple elements operating concurrently within the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). Synthetic scene generators are required to be developed to stimulate, in real-time, both radar and optical sensors within the BMDS. These scene generators must present to the sensor hardware being tested synthetic representations of the scene signature while maintaining temporal consistency with the time-evolving battle-space scenario. This effort investigates how to take a common battle-space scenario consisting of a specified environmental condition with multiple targets and distribute that data across geographically diverse PC-based scene generators used to stimulate different BMDS sensing hardware and algorithms. The Government-Owned codes FLITES and Real-Time CHAMP are utilized to provide the low-level high-fidelity scene generation capability while analyzing the usage of current distributed processing infrastructures utilized by MDA to support Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) testing of multiple dissimilar sensors operating concurrently.
