Research abstract

Metron, Inc. proposes a unique solution for combining data from detailed engineering-level simulations of GPS integrity with a mission- and campaign-level model of joint warfare to produce a tool that can be used to illustrate the importance of accurate GPS signals to various warfighting functions. This tool builds on Metron’s past experience using the Naval Simulation System (NSS) for Navy and Joint studies applications, and our recent collaboration with more detailed models such as GIANT (GPS) and NETWARS (tactical data link and internet-protocol (IP) communications). Metron proposes to outline the various ways that loss or degradation of GPS would impact military operations in an example scenario, and will then present different approaches for the automated exchange of GPS performance information between the detailed GPS model and the warfare model, and demonstrate a subset of these approaches in a sample scenario.
