Research abstract

A variety of approaches ranging from first principles computations to simplified methods have been proposed for design and evaluation of structural framing systems pertaining to their resistance to progressive collapse, especially as a consequence of terrorist attacks. Both threat-related and threat independent methods have been proposed; these methods contains both performance and prescriptive criteria thought suitable to addressing progressive collapse concerns. Despite the existence of several recommended procedures, there is a decided lack of a comprehensive analytic procedure to address progressive Software and methodologies will be developed to objectively address collapse vulnerability risks. The intent is to develop and broad base approach to analyzing building framing systems and their risks vis-a-vis collapse. In this study, all the important risk scenarios related to progressive and conventional modes of collapse related to some triggering event are considered.
