Research abstract

Coherent Jamming is a well known technique as a countermeasure to monopulse radars. Coherent Jamming is performed by two synchronized (coherent) jamming sources that are separated by some distance. Coherency requires that the RF hardware for the two jamming sources be well matched and the clocks for the two jamming sources be synchronized. The need for coherency has required that the two jamming sources be physically located on the same platform with a hard wire connection. The effectiveness of Coherent Jamming depends on many parameters, one of which is the distance of separation of the two jamming sources. A wider separation increases the jamming effectiveness. RBS Technologies proposes to study the feasibility and performance advantages of using non-coherent jamming sources on separate platforms with the hardwire connection between the jammers replaced by a wireless link. The challenge posed by this configuration is to maintain adequate coherence between the two jamming sources. The phase I effort will focus on implementing a well known cooperative jamming technique with the dual platform jamming concept. MATLAB/SIMULINK trade studies will be performed to arrive at a configuration and specification for a hardware implementation by the end of the Phase I effort.
