Research abstract

Perceptronics Solutions, Inc., with the George Mason University Arch Lab and consultant Nathan Schurr of the USC Computer Science Department, presents this proposal for Technology for Enhanced Command and Control of Small Robotics Assets. Our approach will use adaptive display methodology to enhance commander-operator shared situation awareness and structured language to facilitate efficient commander-operator communication, reducing command workload and increasing operational effectiveness. Our technical objective is to apply recent advances in cognitive engineering, information display automation and structured human robot communication to create a command and control infrastructure that allows more effective operation of small UAVs and UGVs. An additional objective is to provide team performance measurement and feedback capabilities for training and after action review. Our team has already made significant progress toward achieving these project goals, and our TECRA system is based on innovative technology products contributed by our team members; these include: George Mason University’s adaptive interface concept for effective human-system performance in the control of robotic assets, USC’s OmniView display concept, Perceptronics Solutions’ Composable Command Language (CCL) and Mixed Initiative Team Performance Assessment System (MITPAS) a complete simulation environment and methodology to measure and assess the performance of teams involving both human and robotic elements.
