Research abstract

KBSI proposes to design, develop and deploy a language, a framework for a suite of tools and a methodology to facilitate the syntactic and semantic interoperability of DoDAF models and artifacts among diverse vendor-specific tools and applications. Syntactic interoperability may today be achieved through CADM, but no guarantee the CADM models are verifiable, validated, or at an executable capability. Currently, semantic interoperability requires manual effort – not only cost ineffective and tedious but also prone to errors. We propose to mitigate these issues by developing the Executable Architecture Markup Language (EAML), an architectural definition language that is intermediary language between DoDAF architectural modeling languages (e.g., IDEF) and execution languages such as those based on the Colored Petri Net and Object Constraint Language or other paradigms. We will also develop a proof-of-concept Intelligent Toolkit for Interoperable Architectures (ITIA) Framework to enable users to meaningfully create/translate/analyze models in various DoDAF views and products to EAML. Finally, we will elaborately document the methodological changes required by model developers, strategic military analysts and systems analysts to develop, modify, validate, and publish verifiable and validated DoDAF-based architectures that are that are verifiable and validated and hence reusable.
