Research abstract

Applied Nanotech, Inc. (ANI) proposes to develop novel Gated Metal Oxide Sensor (GMOS™) technology into a device capable of sensing leaks of hypergolic fuel materials. GMOS™ is a robust solid state system that offers several advantages relative to convention metal oxide sensor technology including: lower power consumption (for long battery life), greater sensitivity and higher selectivity. The ANI leak detector will contain sensing elements for both fuel and oxidizer which will be developed and optimized in experimental work in the Phase I SBIR program. The sensors will be integrated into a breadboard prototype with control electronics and software and tested under simulated environmental conditions required for leak detector application to demonstrate a basic working model of a hypergolic fuel leak detector.
