Research abstract

This proposal is for a Net Centric Adaptive Information Management System (NAIMS) that will facilitate shared awareness and improve decision making among distributed teams. NAIMS will provide a mechanism for prioritizing information based on relevancy within a mission-specific decision making context. The system concept is based on capturing human cognition in the form of decision models -- with subsequent mappings of incoming information to decision model variables. The innovative NAIMS approach to message prioritization and delivery is based on algorithmic prioritization of the message universe with regard to message relevance to the course of action decision model. The system is designed to compute priorities for messages based on selected mission profile attributes and decision model state, while also constantly adapting to refine the criteria for which the priority assessments are made. A unique feature of our approach is that initially clustering occurs in unsupervised manner, and is iteratively refined as decisions are made, using the choice of messages as feedback. Further, the utility of the Phase I effort is expanded by combining NAIMS with the Tactical Group Decision Analysis System (TGDAS) which we are developing under a DARPA-sponsored SBIR Phase II contract and which is focused on USSOCOM decision teams.
