Research abstract

The US Department of Defense (DoD) has a need for a lightweight, portable, covert radio direction finding (DF) antenna. Current technology must be precisely spaced, oriented and phased, which makes it difficult to design an antenna with the necessary features whose function is not obvious to a trained observer. QUASAR Federal Systems (QFS) proposes to leverage the capabilities of its state-of-the-art electromagnetic (EM) sensing technology to design and build a DF array that will be capable of sensing low power, short duration communications under a wide variety of terrain and environmental conditions, able to function in the frequency bands from 30 MHz to 10 GHz, capable of being camouflaged in benign objects such as tent poles, trees etc., lightweight, rugged, and accurate to 5 degrees rms over the band of interest. QFS is a world leader in state-of-the-art EM sensing instrumentation and has demonstrated success in EM DF technology in both ground-based and airborne systems. QFS’s proven expertise in both EM sensing technology development and government contract work offers the DoD the capabilities necessary to fill a demonstrated tactical need.
