Research abstract

The Navy seeks a specialized ADC technology that interfaces with low-noise Underwater Electromagnetic (UEM) sensors to achieve extremely low system noise levels. QUASAR Federal Systems (QFS) has been a developer of ultra-low frequency UEM sensors for the last 15+ years. Combining our experience in analog sensors and low power ADCs, we developed a 3-axis E-field sensor system for the Navy and a 6-axis underwater Electromagnetic Receiver as a commercial product. For these UEM sensor systems, QFS also developed ultra-low noise multi-channel 24-bit ADC modules.ÝFor this Navy SBIR project QFS plans to design and develop a customized ADC board to interface with the Navyís ultra low-noise UEM sensors. The circuit board will be based on the latest high performance ADC chip and ARM based microprocessor for low noise, large dynamic range, wide bandwidth, and low EMI. Compact size and low power will also be considered. In Phase 1, we will finalize the requirements for the ADC board and select components. During Phase II, we will design and build a multichannel ADC board based on the Phase I concept design and demonstrate that the ADC board meets the requirements for digitizing analog data from the Navyís UEM sensors.ÝÝ
