Research abstract

The main goal of this project is to design, configure, and demonstrate an innovative Framework for Adaptive Modeling and Ontology-driven Simulation (FAMOS). We propose a hybrid approach that combines ontology and process analysis methods with ontology-driven information analysis techniques to facilitate (i) robust simulation composability analysis and (ii) semantic modeling and simulation interoperability. The main results of the Phase I project effort were (i) innovative composability assessment methods, (ii) FAMOS architecture, (iii) FAMOS proof-of-concept implementation, and (iv) FAMOS demonstration on test case Air Force and government application scenarios and data. The successful Phase I technology demonstration experiments established the technical viability of our approach. The Phase II effort will (i) establish requirements for a focused FAMOS Air Force application, (ii) refine and enhance the innovative FAMOS methods for composable modeling and simulation, (iii) harden and generalize the FAMOS architecture design, (iv) test and evaluate the FAMOS technology with realistic Air Force application scenarios and data, and (vi) refine FAMOS for rapid technology transition and commercialization.
