Research abstract

This proposal describes algorithms and systems are based on a two sensor solution to the Cruise Missile (CM) detection, identification and track problem. One sensor is specifically designed for launch detection and operates in a wide field of view (WFOV). The WFOV sensor will have a large field of regard and be designed to detect and identify the high energy launch of a cruise missile (CM) without false alarms. The second sensor is a narrow field of view tracker that is designed to extract the faint CM target from the clutter as it moves along the earth background. Solid State Scientific Corporation (SSSC) will develop algorithms to detect, identify, and track CM launches (booster signatures) using a wide field of view space based sensor. Specifically, for tomahawk type CM, the algorithms will provide instantaneous and false alarm free launch detection and identification, and pass along the launch location and initial target direction to a narrow field of view sensor for subsequent tracking. For rocket based CM, the algorithms will support the initial detection and identification of the target as well as the ensuing track.
