Research abstract

Surmet proposes using their durable coating technologies to enhance the performance of Missile windows and domes. These coatings will be used to improve optical performance, durability and ‘polishability’ of Missile Windows and Domes. Durable oxide Anti-Reflection coatings deposited over thick hardening layers will substantially improve the durability of ZnS transparencies. This work is a continuation and extension of the Phase I effort. These coatings will be applied to a full scale ZnS THAAD window at the end of the proposed Phase II effort. In addition, Surmet has developed proprietary technology which can be applied to the surface of polycrystalline materials making them compatible with deterministic finishing techniques. This technology was successfully demonstrated by Surmet as a part of their internally funded IR&D effort. This technology will be applied to bonded JCM dome prototypes as a part of the proposed effort.
