Research abstract

Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques are viewed as a breakthrough technology that will bring strong benefits to future military communications systems. At present, MIMO technology offers potential users two very different solutions: 1)High data rate solution (Spatial Multiplexing (SM)) and 2) Robust, low-complexity, reduced data rate solution (Space-Time Codes (STC)). In our Phase 1 work we have evaluated the potential of MIMO for LPD/AJ applications under frequency selective channels, mobility and diverse scenarios. Our over-overarching Phase II objective is to build, optimize and demonstrate a mobile MIMO-based system applicable to the military objectives of robust LPD/AJ, MANET communications. We propose to demonstrate the new capabilities in two substantial field demonstrations as follows: 1) Demonstrate point-to-point LPD/AJ communications between a pair of mobile nodes in diverse scenarios (Demo 1) 2) Demonstrate networked LPD/AJ communications between three mobile nodes in diverse scenarios. The demonstrations shall include simulated UAV relay, multi-hop communications, and multicast under dynamic topologies (Demo 2).
