Research abstract

The dome for the Joint Common Missile (JCM) program is required to have a patterned metal mesh buried between inner and outer dielectric layers. Surmet’s approach is to adhesively bond inner and outer ALON shells together, with a metal grid buried at the interface. The bonding and fabrication processes required to produce JCM dome prototypes are currently being demonstrated on the phase I effort. The goal of the proposed Phase II effort is to refine the various processes to yield several fully compliant prototypes for evaluation by the JCM program.
