Research abstract

Military working dogs (MWDs) provide unparalleled threat detection capabilities like hearing and smell, which are key battlefield enablers. However, their health often goes unmonitored, especially in extreme environments or during rest and recovery in kennels. This leads to undetected health issues that can cause permanent harm or premature death, limiting their effectiveness and risking mission success. The Army needs a real-time, accurate monitoring system to address these gaps, ensuring MWDs remain healthy and operational. To address this challenge, Apollo Neurosciences, Inc. proposes adapting its Apollo® Wearable for MWDs. This non-invasive device uses patented haptic feedback to stimulate the nervous system, promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and enhancing recovery. The wearable will monitor canine physiological indicators like body temperature, stress levels, and cognitive function in real-time, addressing health concerns proactively. It will also improve rest and rehabilitation through its therapeutic vibration technology.
