Research abstract

This effort adapts ZDEN’s Technology Rapid Integration and Deployment (TRIAD) system from B-52 and B-2 to bridge legacy Navy aircraft avionics with modern hardware and software via the MOB Hub Circuit Card Assembly. Rapidly integrating new capabilities such as advanced sensors, electronic warfare, communications, and edge decision software onto legacy aircraft is vital to ensuring warfighting advantages against peer adversaries. Future fights will be won or lost based on the ability to detect and share information across platforms and services, and integrated data links and electronics take too long to field. ZDEN proposes Technology Open Systems Integration and Deployment (TOPSIDE), a mission computing architecture adapted from Phase 3 SBIR work on Air Force platforms. TOPSIDE implements robust domain isolation to protect aircraft certification boundaries, enabling adaptive operational systems that can fight and win in dynamic threat environments through rapid integration of third-party capabilities onto platforms.
