Research abstract

Syrnatec Inc. proposes an Advanced Modular Avionics Enhancement Framework to modernize legacy mission computers and tactical data buses across U.S. Navy aircraft, including the F/A-18, E-2D, SH-60, and M/V-22. This solution enables seamless integration of modern software applications by leveraging open architecture standards such as FACE (Future Airborne Capability Environment), HOST (Hardware Open Systems Technologies), SOSA (Sensor Open Systems Architecture), and OMS (Open Mission Systems). To sense, synthesize, and provide aircraft-specific data, our solution implements multi-protocol interface modules capable of extracting real-time mission data from MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and proprietary data buses. This data is then processed using an AI-enhanced fusion engine that prioritizes mission-critical parameters while ensuring low-latency analytics and decision support. Our middleware-based interoperability layer translates aircraft data into standardized formats, ensuring compatibility with third-party mission applications while maintaining DO-254 and DO-178C certifications. The solution also integrates secure sandboxing and role-based access controls to protect mission data from unauthorized access while enabling scalable and vendor-agnostic software deployment. To validate feasibility, Syrnatec will assess the integration of the TacMo IPT/PMA-272-developed MOB Hub-embedded computer as a centralized processing node, performing model-based systems engineering (MBSE) simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to ensure non-intrusive compatibility with existing avionics systems. By adopting this secure, scalable, and cost-effective avionics enhancement framework, the U.S. Navy can rapidly introduce new mission capabilities, reduce OEM dependency, and future-proof existing aircraft for evolving combat requirements.
