Research abstract

Often knowledge management or automated information management systems focus on display organization or display architecture research; however, these approaches while important, do not get at the core problem of consistently eliciting and organizing dataand information during design within and across systems. This proposal presents a work plan and design methodology for examining the feasibility of a design tool set to support eliciting data structures that will form the foundation for knowledgemanagement systems and automation functions. Additionally, the tool set will take the elicited data and information and organize it in a visualized structure with the system and across other systems. Subsequently as tasks and missions change, thisstructure can be adapted to ensure that systems cluster knowledge around new tasks appropriately. It is expected that tactical users can also use this technology to adapt their information organization and automation system setup within reasonablelimitations. The goal will be to define a feasible capability for testing and evaluation in Phase II and expansion in Phase III with significant potential for transition to commercial applications.
