Research abstract
Technical AbstractÝWMDTech, a leader in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) innovation, presents a research and development initiative under SBIR Topic N251-058 to design, develop, and demonstrate a kinetic projectile/cartridge solution. The kinetic projectile solution will be compatible with standard service calibers; 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm, .300 Norma Magnum (NM), .338 NM, 6.8x51mm, and EOD-specific 12-gauge disrupters. The primary focus is on .338 NM, 7.62x51mm, and 12-gauge rounds to balance penetration, effectiveness, and operational burden. ÝMaterial Selection and Structural OptimizationÝEvaluating materials like tungsten, steel, and titanium for penetration and durability.ÝInvestigating incendiary additives such as magnesium and zirconium for improved explosive consumption.ÝConducting finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for aerodynamic and kinetic optimization.ÝBallistic Performance Modeling and TestingÝUsing advanced modeling to predict behavior under various environmental conditions.ÝConducting live-fire testing to validate accuracy and penetration capabilities.ÝEmploying Doppler radar and high-speed cameras to analyze projectile dynamics.ÝSystem Integration with Service Weapons and EOD DisruptersÝEnsuring compatibility with standard military rifles and EOD disrupters.ÝValidating performance under simulated operational conditions.ÝPrototype Manufacturing and Statistical ValidationÝUtilizing CNC machining and additive manufacturing.ÝDelivering a minimum of 40 prototypes for government testing.ÝConducting rigorous quality control checks to meet SAAMI standards.ÝPhase I Work Plan:ÝBase (First 6 Months): Material selection, preliminary design, initial simulations, prototype manufacturing, and testing.ÝOption (Second 6 Months): Expanded testing, system integration, and final optimization.ÝBeyond military applications, the kinetic projectile solution offers significant potential for civilian bomb squads, law enforcement, and industrial sectors such as mining and demolition.ÝMilitary: Deployment across U.S. Armed Forces and allied defense partners.ÝLaw Enforcement: Enhanced capabilities for state and municipal bomb squads.ÝIndustrial: Controlled demolitions in construction and hazardous material disposal.ÝWMDTech will engage strategic defense partners to transition this technology into production while ensuring compliance with ITAR and SAAMI standards.ÝWMDTechís team includes experts in kinetic energy systems and EOD operations. Its facilities support CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and live-fire testing.Ý40 fully tested kinetic projectiles, Comprehensive technical data package, Final test report with Phase II recommendations.ÝWMDTechís proposed kinetic projectile solution offers a transformative advancement in EOD technology, enhancing safety, precision, and operational effectiveness through rigorous development and testing, ensuring a scalable solutions.ÝÝÝ
