Research abstract

Electrokinetic based technology is beginning to emerge as an economical choice to solve a number of engineering and remediation challenges within both military and civilian populations. Lynntech has been at the forefront of electrokinetic innovation forseveral years. During the Phase I research effort Lynntech collaborated with the Army Corp of Engineers and APS Materials Inc., to develop a 2nd generation electrokinetic system that used electro-osmotic pulse technology in combination with soilconditioning solutions. The Phase I results showed enhanced electro-osmotic flow, and lead removal when compared to a control bed. The system was also used to demonstrate engineering projects with in situ barrier formation and soil hardening. Theobjectives of the Phase II will be transfer this technology to the field. Lynntech has procured a site at Ft. George Meade MD for a field demonstration of a dewatering system, soil hardening system and lead removal system. The potential for success ishigh. Lynntech has partnered with APS Materials Inc., to provide electrode materials and with Ft. George Meade Environmental Engineers to ensure a smooth transition from the bench to the field. During the demonstration portion of the research Lynntechwill use the site to attract potential Phase III investment. Because this technology has mission specific applications within the DOD and general applications with civilian agencies, the commercialization strategy must fulfill the needs of both. Lynntechwill license portions of this technology to a strategic partner such as APS Materials, Inc., Geragty & Miller, IT, or Dames & Moore who have the infrastructure already in place to facilitate a smooth transition from prototype to product. These strategicpartners already have the materials suppliers, assembly capabilities, marketing and sales, and distribution network necessary for a successful product launch
