Research abstract

The proposal addresses the Navy RAJPO's objectives to develop robust software and hardware configurations that provide decimeter level accuracy of KDGPS under high dynamics. The two proposed systems, RAJPO-I and II, meet the above objective and provide options of reducing the overall instrumentation system cost by reducing the requirements on the inertial aiding system. The architecture of these two systems will be analyzed and a final architecture will be selected as the result of Phase I study. Effective carrier tracking techniques and ambiguity resolution algorithms and estimation filters are employed to improve the KDGPS accuracy and robustness. A new tracking loop architecture is proposed to reduce the possibility of cycle slip and loss-of-lock errors. Dual-stage estimation techniques are utilized to process both dual and single frequency GPS measurements to enhance the system accuracy and reliability. The Phase I effort will demonstrate the algorithm and hardware performance under high dynamics and test vehicle flexure/vibration. The Phase II effort will complete the RAJPO system design and implementation of the algorithms on a Mayflower GPS receiver and demonstrate its performance, namely the robustness of carrier tracking and ambiguity resolution, KDGPS accuracy, and the effectiveness of flexure/vibration compensation under high dynamics.
