Research abstract

Today, RPO is expensive and “hard” but some of the underlying technologies at the heart of any RPO mission, the sensors, have been commoditized for the terrestrial market. In response to the SpaceWERX Sustained Space Maneuver (SSM) SBIR challenge, Momentus is proposing to drastically reduce the cost of RPO by producing a multi-spectral RPO sensor package using automotive and other industrially commoditized sensors. Through this Direct to Phase 2 (D2P2) effort, Momentus will produce and perform an on-orbit demonstration of a prototype low cost RPO multispectral sensor and data fusion product (LCRMS) that leverages commercial supply chains, prepares industrial grade hardware for the space environment, and ultimately makes RPO and ZPO cheap and “easy”. This is an advanced optical, radar, lidar, and infrared sensors and imaging system enabling technology for the RPO/ZPO focus area.
