Research abstract

To meet the Navy’s need for affordable passive navigation technologies for location awareness on sUSVs or small craft when GPS is degraded and/or unavailable, TelemeTrak proposes building an AI- and Sensor Data Fusion-Based PPSN system  by modifyingits current, patent protected PNT device by  adding various technologies. The overarching goal of this proposal is to lay the groundwork for Phase II, and then Phase III Transition and Commercialization (of our dual-use, AI- and Sensor Data Fusion-Based PPSN system) with both government (DoD, DoT and other agencies) and the private sector.  Our current dual-use solutions are already in service today with both government and industry.  We’re confident that we can attract additional private capital as needed to commercialize the PPSN solution we’re proposing now. INS and precision clocks are subject to drift errors, as the Topic underlines.  Petrucci writes that “All measurements have a degree of uncertainty regardless of precision and accuracy … caused by systematic error and random error.”  Our system reduces these errors by statistically combining multiple sensor readings and training AI (on how the sensor data drifts) by comparing its PNT solutions with GPS, when that’s available.  When it’s unavailable or degraded, our AINNs use what they’ve learned, in training, to automatically bound drift without it. Key aspects of our proposed modular design:Compact, Low-SWaP Configuration: By optimizing its size, weight, and power (SWaP) characteristics, the proposed system / device footprint will be no larger than 4 inches by 4 inches by 4 inches. The system will weigh less than 10 lbs. and total system power consumption will be less than 100W.Processor Integration for Autonomy and Precision Control: The processors will be integrated to manage autonomous functions.GPS Receiver: The GPS receiver (likely the Lantronix’ A5100-A) will be an accurate source for synchronization.Appropriate Output Interface for sUSV and Small Craft Compatibility: To ensure seamless integration with existing sUSVs and other small craft, the proposed system will be equipped with standardized interfaces (possibly an RS-232/RS-485, USB output, CAN bus, or some combination, depending on exact Navy specifications / whatever the Navy prefers). This output will facilitate direct synchronization with Navy sUSV and small craft internal systems.Robust and Resilient Design for RF-Contested Environments: Designed to withstand temperature fluctuations, magnetic interference, and potential shock, the proposed PPSN device will incorporate shielding and environmental protection to ensure reliable performance in RF-contested and extreme environments.AI and Machine Learning for both Drift Reduction and GPS-to-PPSN Switch-over. The Navy seeks innovative technologies that can be adapted to meet its specific needs.  TelemeTrak is proposing the adaptation of our patent protected non-defense, commercial solution to meet the needs detailed in Topic N251-026.
