Research abstract

Chemiluminescence is a powerful analytical technique that exhibits high sensitivity and selectivity. This technique when coupled with electrolysis is greatly advantageious over the conventional methods as the reagents are produced in situ at the electrode. The presence of trace amounts of solvents such as TCE, PCE, methylene chloride and carbon tetrachloride can be monitored using the method of electrogenerated chemiluminescence. In addition, the proposed sensor will not only detect nitroaromatics, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene but will also exhibit characteristic signal properties for the different components thus helping in the identification of the pllutant. With the use of appropriate luminophores, the sensor will additionally be capable of detecting trace metals. The compact lowcost and efficient sensor will be capable of monitoring pollutants both in the soil and ground water.
