Research abstract

The Dormitory Readiness Tool (DRT) is a crowdsourced maintenance data platform designed to improve communication between residents and dorm managers while maintaining a centralized, standardized, and easily manageable database. Unlike traditional maintenance management systems, DRT enables real-time reporting by allowing dorm residents to submit maintenance issues with descriptions and images, streamlining response times and reducing unnecessary assessments. The system enhances operational efficiency by providing dorm managers with mission-specific insights, enabling data-driven decision-making to prioritize repairs and optimize resource allocation. DRT has been successfully demonstrated in a relevant environment, receiving positive feedback from both dorm managers and Department of the Air Force leadership. The prototype implementation at Joint Base San Antonio has highlighted the tool’s potential to enhance dormitory readiness and overall facility management, offering a scalable and adaptable solution for military housing and a commercialization path for other applications such as in education and business campus environments.
