Research abstract

Under Phase II, the continuation of the effort initiated under Phase I will complete the feasibility study and support the construction of the Phase II prototype of a closed-loop adaptive training system for integrated satellite operations training (ISOT).The ISOT prototype will provide integrated satellite operations training and rehearsal for multiple satellite system ground control by using advanced interactive multimedia instruction (IMI); intelligent tutoring system (ITS) technology; and advancedmodeling, simulation, stimulation, and visualization technologies. Tasks for the construction of the prototype include drafting (and maintaining) the software requirements specification and software description document and developing the following: theISOT presentation environment for the ITS component of the prototype, the unified learner model (ULM), the instructional engine, the domain expert, the instructional objects to populate the IMI, and the instructor tools that allow instructors to interactwith the ULM. Once the prototype has been completed and tested, usability and effectiveness studies will be conducted to evaluate the prototype software, and the ISOT prototype software will be demonstrated. The Phase II prototype will communicate thefeatures/benefits for integrating closed-loop adaptive training into the phased Space Training program.
